NHS Dental Care – Treatment Bands
NHS dentistry is available at our Ipswich practice.
At the Foxhall Dental Practice, we are pleased to offer dental care on the NHS for those who require it and where availability allows.
Whilst the range of procedures is limited only to those treatments which look after the health of the teeth and gums, and not their appearance, the list of procedures available is still quite extensive.
In today’s blog, we take a look at a few of the more common treatments available within each band of treatment, with band 1 being the most straightforward and the more complex dental procedures being in band 3.
Band 1 generally contains treatments that you might receive when you need routine treatment, or simply an examination or x-ray. Emergency dental treatment is also covered, as are dental fillings and fluoride sealants. It is worth noting that cosmetic dental fillings are not included in this, and standard amalgam fillings will be used unless cosmetic fillings are paid for privately.
A scale and polish may also be performed in this band of treatment, but only where it is clinically necessary.
Band 2 treatments include those in band 1, but also offer more involved treatments such as root planing, where gum disease has become advanced and may be affecting the roots of the teeth and the bone structure. It also includes root canal treatments which can help to save an infected tooth that would otherwise need extracting.
One of the most common treatment in this band is a tooth extraction. You can be assured though, that we will do all that we can to make sure that this is a last resort wherever possible. Some minor oral surgery such as cyst removals are also included in this band.
Band 3 NHS dental treatments involve more complex procedures such as the fitting of dental crowns and bridges. Orthodontics too are included here, but again, these are not the cosmetic orthodontics such as Invisalign, which are only available privately.
Dentures are included in this band and are an alternative to dental implants for those who do not wish to undergo an invasive procedure, perhaps for medical reasons, or due to dental anxiety.
All of the above, and other lesser known treatments available on the NHS should be sufficient to keep your mouth in a good, healthy condition. We do also offer cosmetic dental procedures for those wishing to improve the appearance of their smile too, and are happy to discuss any aspect of this with you.
