The Benefits Of An Attractive Smile – More Than You Think?

The Benefits Of An Attractive Smile – More Than You Think?

The range of treatments at Foxhall Dental Ipswich can boost your smile and your confidence.

Most people now probably have a better understanding of the importance of good oral health care than was the case in previous generations. A ‘quick brush of the teeth’ is no longer accepted as being sufficient to have healthy teeth and gums. Through advertising, awareness campaigns and, undoubtedly, the healthy and attractive smile of many people on TV, a lot of people are becoming more conscious about their own oral health.

A healthy mouth is a great place to start, but it won’t have escaped the notice of many people, especially towards the younger end of the scale, that an attractive smile can make you really stand out from the crowd. Given that many younger people are now turning to cosmetic dentistry to boost their smile, it can be all too easy to become less noticeable in a crowd if your smile is not all that it could be.

The advantages of a smile makeover

There are many good reasons to consider dental treatment to improve the way that your teeth look. Having an attractive smile for aesthetic reasons is just one of them. There is no doubt that being able to look in a mirror and be pleased with the way your smile looks, will certainly help to give your self confidence a boost.

If you notice that your smile is attractive, then it is very likely that others will too. Compliments from friends are nice of course, but especially if you are single, a nice smile can really help you to attract prospective partners. It is often said that people make their mind up about you within the first few seconds of meeting you. What better then, than to greet them with a warm and attractive smile? It is not only in the field of relationships that this can be beneficial; general friendships can be found more easily and potentially, with the other correct credentials of course, a nice smile might just give you that edge when applying for a job, especially where this is a public facing one.

Of course, it isn’t possible to simply ‘magic’ an attractive smile overnight and that is where our Ipswich cosmetic dental team can help you.

Step 1 – Oral health check

There is little point in undergoing cosmetic dental treatment if your teeth and gums are in poor health. A trip to the hygienist and dentist should be your first step to address any areas of concern that need rectifying before we start to work on boosting your smile. If you generally look after your teeth well, there may be little to do, but it makes sense not to spend money on cosmetic smile treatments, only for teeth to break or fall out etc.

Step 2 – Straightening a smile

It may be that you don’t require this step, but if you have overlapping, or protruding teeth on the social six teeth that can be seen when you smile, this should be addressed, otherwise treatments like teeth whitening may only serve to highlight these flaws even more. There are a range of almost invisible orthodontics available to address this, with those that straighten minor cosmetic  issues, potentially only taking a few weeks to work.

Step 3 – Crowns and veneers

The next step is to ensure that any teeth that are worn down or that are smaller, or eroded by acidic drink consumption are rectified. This can be done by using a crown or, in some cases, teeth veneers, to restore them. Cosmetic bonding may also be appropriate in some cases and we will discuss your options during your initial consultation with us.

Step 4 – Teeth whitening

The most obvious improvement that can be made to improve a smile of course, is to whiten the teeth. Most people’s teeth will discolour somewhat, either through consumption of staining food and drinks or through becoming older, when the inner part of the tooth darkens and shows through the translucent enamel. For more severe cases, the veneers mentioned above can also be used for the purpose of attaining whiter teeth. For most people though, our one hour teeth whitening treatment may be ideal.

This fast acting treatment can be carried out in just one visit to our Ipswich dental clinic and is entirely non-invasive and therefore suitable for even nervous patients. Your lips and gums will be protected before a whitening gel is applied to your teeth. The process is then accelerated using a special light, and one hour later, the gel will be removed and you should see a noticeable improvement in the whiteness of your teeth.

It is quite possible that you may only need one or two of these treatments to achieve your aims.
