Stand Out From The Crowd With A Whiter Smile

With warmer weather around the corner, it’s time to get your social smile on!
As we feel the gradual warming of the days, many of us start to think of holidays but also social events that are held outside in the UK, such barbecues and garden parties. Sports such as tennis also venture back outside, along with any related social activities. It is hardly surprising then that we look forward to the spring and summer with many taking the opportunity to refresh their appearance, and for some, that includes their smile.
If you live in or around Ipswich and recognise yourself in the above paragraph then the cosmetic dentistry team at the Foxhall Dental Practice are here to help you. Along with other treatments, we offer a very popular teeth whitening procedure that can really transform your smile in a short period of time.
Why whiten your teeth?
The obvious answer to this is that it will improve the way that they look. While this is true, it can also open up opportunities for you and help you to stand out from those around you. This could mean you attracting new friends (or more) at parties and social gatherings and your white smile can even help you professionally. Studies have frequently shown that people are more attracted to a white smile than a dull one, and, as you have the option, it makes sense to take the opportunity to improve yours.
Faster results
We understand that some people like to see results as quickly as possible and some slower teeth whitening treatments can take a week or two to see the full results. Our convenient Ipswich dentists offers a fast acting one hour treatment that can transform your smile in a very short time. The procedure itself is safe and non-invasive and we are sure that you will be delighted with the results.
Before the treatment starts, our dentist will protect your gums to prevent burning that can occur if the whitening gel ( a type of bleaching agent) comes into contact with them. The gel is then placed on your teeth and a special light used to activate it. Once this part is done, you simply have to wait for around one hour for the treatment to be complete. The gel is then cleaned off and you will see a significant improvement in the colour of your previously discoloured or stained teeth.
While the effects of this procedure are not permanent, they are quite long lasting and the treatment can be safely repeated as often as you wish. We will offer advice on how to plan your treatments if you wish, for a long term whiteness. This will depend on what you want to achieve over the long term and we will discuss this with you and put an action plan into place.
Whitening toothpastes
We sometimes get asked whether patients need a teeth whitening procedure when there are whitening toothpastes available in many stores. The answer is that these are only allowed to contain a fraction of the strength of the whitening gels that we use. In all honesty, we are fairly sure that anyone attempting to whiten their teeth to any degree in this way is likely to be disappointed. You are free, of course, to try these as they are harmless, but we suggest that you don’t get your hopes up. For a guaranteed whiter smile, please contact us for advice.
Longer term solutions
For some people, their first teeth whitening procedure is undertaken as a bit of an ‘experiment’, to see how much whiter their teeth can be. Some have the procedure just once, for a big event like a wedding for example. Others are so pleased with the results that they choose to have the treatment at regular intervals to maintain the whiteness.
There is another option available which is more permanent and longer lasting. This is when porcelain dental veneers are attached to the teeth. These are an excellent way of maintaining a white smile, typically for around ten years when the veneers may need to be replaced. It should be noted that this treatment usually requires a fine layer of enamel being removed from the front of the teeth which is replaced with a fine layer of porcelain, shaped to look like a natural tooth.
Unlike a teeth whitening procedure that can be done as a one off with no permanent physical changes to your teeth other than their appearance, the enamel removal is permanent and once you have had this treatment, you will be committed to veneers for the rest of your life. It can be an excellent way of attaining a great looking smile but you can also ‘test the waters’ first with a non-invasive whitening procedure before making any more longer lasting decisions.
